“Where do I even start?”
The struggle: Most aspiring VAs feel lost — there are so many online courses, job platforms, and skills to learn.
Why it happens: No clear direction or roadmap to follow.
Tip: Start with one role (like Admin VA or Social Media VA) and one platform (like Upwork or OnlineJobs). Learn the basics first, then grow from there.
Building a Portfolio Without Experience
The struggle: “How do I get clients if I don’t have experience?”
Why it happens: You’re waiting for a real client before creating samples — which keeps you stuck.
Tip: Create mock projects or volunteer for small businesses to build your first portfolio. Clients care more about proof of skill than past job titles.
Confidence in Talking to Clients
The struggle: Many aspiring VAs feel nervous writing proposals or speaking in English with clients.
Why it happens: Lack of real-world practice and fear of making mistakes.
Tip: Practice with tools like ChatGPT’s audio feature or record yourself answering interview questions. The goal is progress, not perfection.
Learning Too Many Skills at Once
The struggle: Trying to learn Canva, social media, admin, real estate, and video editing all at once.
Why it happens: Fear of missing out — thinking the more you learn, the more chances you’ll get hired.
Tip: Pick one niche skill and get really good at it. Specialized VAs get hired faster than “I can do anything” ones.

"Such an empowering program"
I’m truly grateful for the 0 to VA Challenge by Barangay VA University! As someone who is just starting out in the freelancing world, this FREE program exceeded my expectations. Each phase is beginner-friendly yet packed with valuable, practical lessons.
I especially loved Phase 9: Business Plan because it opened my eyes to the importance of treating freelancing as a real business, not just a side hustle. It gave me clarity on my goals, services, and how to position myself.
Thank you, Barangay VA, for creating such an empowering program! Highly recommended to anyone serious about starting their VA journey. Go na mi, mag-start ka na! - Apple
